He was assigned to the post after Condoleezza Rice was confirmed as the Secretary of State in January 2005. Prior to his current assignment, Hadley was the deputy national security advisor, a position he held since January 2001. Before his career in the public sector, Hadley was a partner at a Washington, DC law firm. He also served as a principal at an international consulting firm.
