    Smith took his first sports writing position in 1991 while still in college with the Winston-Salem Journal, then the Greensboro News and Record in 1992. In 1993, he signed on to cover sports for the New York Daily News. The following year, he moved to the Philadelphia Inquirer, covering the Philadelphia 76ers, the National Basketball Association and sports in general.ESPN Media Zone: Stephen A.
