  • Stephane Yelle is a Canadian professional hockey player currently playing for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League. A solid center, effective on the face off and penalty kill, Yelle is also a strong defensive player who often acts as a replacement for injured defensemen.
  • Professional Career

    Stephane Yelle was drafted by the New Jersey Devils during the eighth round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft, but was traded to the Quebec Nordiques in 1994 before he had finished his junior years in the Ontario Hockey League. Yelle played one season with the Nordiques' American Hockey League affiliate before joining the team, which had now relocated to Denver as the Colorado Avalanche, as a full time player for the 1995-1996 season.

    In his first NHL season, Yelle scored fourteen goals in 93 games to assist the Avalanche in their Stanley Cup win. Colorado would go on to become the Stanley Cup champions again in 2001. Prior to the 2002-2003 season, Yelle was traded to the Calgary Flames. In his first season with the Flames, Yelle reached a record high of 25 points and was a contributing factor in their run to the Stanley Cup finals the next season.
