Step Up 2 the Streets features a reversal in roles from the original Step Up movie. In this film, Andie, played by Briana Evigan, comes from a tough background and a street dancing team called 410. At the urging of her brother figure Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum), she auditions for a place at the Maryland School of the Arts. Once accepted, she struggles to fit in. Andie eventually teams up with Chase Collins, played by Robert Hoffman, a dancer at the school. Together they decide to form another dance crew that will enter the dance battle The Streets, against Andie's old crew. The Streets is illegal, and the newly formed team must battle both the school's disapproval and the danger of taking on the 410. Romance blossoms between Andie and Chase in the midst of the dance action.

- "There are saving graces, notably exuberant musical sequences (the best of which depicts couples salsa-dancing at a backyard barbecue) and a likable supporting cast, including Adam G. Sevani as Moose, a diminutive, goofy but preternaturally confident dancer who might be the baddest nerd in movie history."
