Step Up is a dance film that follows the lives of two dancers who have to work together in a showcase that determines both of their futures. Channing Tatum plays Tyler Gage, a good kid knocking around the foster care system in urban Maryland. Jenna Dewan plays the talented but stifled dancer Nora Clark, who attends the Maryland School of Arts. When Tyler is sentenced to community service for being caught wrecking props at the school, he gets to know Nora and the other students. Tyler, with his background in street dancing and Nora, with her ballet background eventually devise a dance routine together that Nora will perform as part of her senior showcase, an event that will double as Tyler's audition piece to get into the school in the next semester. Subplots involving Tyler's friends and Nora's boyfriend add drama to the dance-heavy film.
