Steny Hoyer is a Democratic Representative from Maryland and the House Majority Leader. Hoyer was voted into the House during a special election in 1981, and has remained in office ever since. Prior to this, he was voted into the Maryland Senate in 1966 when he was 27 years of age. He served three terms in the state senate, and then left office in 1978 in an attempt to become lieutenant governor. Early Life
Steny Hoyer was born on June 14, 1939 in New York City. He earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University in 1966, after graduating from the University of Maryland in 1963. Hoyer was 27 years old when he entered the Senate, and at 35 was named president (making him the youngest Senate president in Maryland history).
