Held in downtown Pittsburgh, the parade began near Mellon Arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, then headed down Sixth Avenue. Prior to the Super Bowl victory, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl announced that there would be no celebration parade, should the Steelers win. He cited the cost to the city, $45,000 for security and cleanup, for the parade when the Steelers won Super Bowl XL in 2006, calling a Super Bowl XLIII parade a "budget buster."
