Steam is a digital distribution and community service designed and maintained by Valve Corporation, the company that designs and publishes the Half-Life games, among others. Steam hosts an online store for dozens of PC games from past and present, as well as providing a platform for multiplayer gaming. Most major games are available digitally on Steam, including the entire Valve catalog, as well as a large number of classic PC titles, like Deus Ex. Recent Steam releases include Saints Row 2 and Spore.Steam: Saints Row 2 Now on Steam (December 7, 2008)
Steam Cloud
Steam features an innovative service called Steam Cloud, which houses all game settings and saves for certain titles on a central server, so that gamers can move from machine to machine and have the same experience across the board. This is especially useful in case of hard drive malfunctions, as it prevents loss of game data or progress. Steam Cloud currently is only available in Left 4 Dead, but will eventually be a part of all Valve games and any third-party games that choose to utilize the service.
