A sexually transmitted disease, commonly referred to as an STD, is an infectious disease that can be spread through intimate sexual contact with an infected person. Many people who have a sexually transmitted disease do not show symptoms, which makes it easy to unknowingly spread the infection. It is important to be tested regularly, not only for a person's own protection, but for the protection of others as well.
