Statler and Waldorf

Member Note

Statler and Waldorf are fictional characters from Jim Henson's Muppets. The characters made their television debut in 1975 and commonly heckle other Muppets from their balcony box at the theater.

Grumpy Old Men

Statler, who generally appears on the right with gray hair, and Waldorf, who generally appears on the left with white hair and a mustache, appeared on several Muppets shows. Their early work, in the 1970s, included appearances on The Muppet Show, where they would share their opinions of performers as well as end each episode with their thoughts.

Muppets Tonight

In 1996 and 1997, Statlet and Waldorf were featured on Muppets Tonight. Rather than watching live performances, the duo watched television programs from their nursing home and discussed their opinions.

From the Balcony

Satler and Waldorf appeared on the 2005-2006 webisode Statler & Waldorf: From the Balcony on Movies.com. As a spoof of Ebert and Roeper, the pair gave their opinions of upcoming films. The show ran for 35 episodes and was recognized by Time Magazine in 2006 as part of their "25 Sites We Can't Live Without" feature.TIME: 25 Sites We Can't Live Without (August 3, 2006)
