StarCraft Brood War Description
This walkthrough covers the expansion for what is arguably one of the best strategy games of all time, Star Craft. The expansion is StarCraft Brood War and continues the Star Craft story. As in the original there are 3 races to play as and each one is a campaign to play through. The Protoss (a highly advanced alien race), the Terran(a mechanically advanced human race), and the Zerg (an animalistic race). As the basics of how to play are the same for each race, they all have different strengths and weaknesses. The Protoss have very powerful units, however they are the most expensive. The Terran have advanced technology but have a mixture of weak inexpensive units and powerful but expensive units. The Zerg have all around inexpensive units which are fairly weak as well, however they rely on massive quantities of these units and monstrous swarms. After you play through each campaign, be sure to sign up with Battle.net and play against other players around the world. -

Before You Play:
- It is recommended you play the campaigns in the order they appear:
- Protoss
- Terran
- Zerg

Escape from Aiur
Mission Objectives:
- Get Zeratul to the Warp Gate.
- Zeratul must survive.
Mission:
- Now even though this is a strategy game, in this first mission you will not be building or creating units.
- You are given 6 Zealots, 3 Dragoons and Zeratul who is a very powerful, and invisible, Dark Templar.
- Since Zeratul is very powerful use him primarily for destroying all the Zerg Nydus Canals along the way, and any other Zerg buildings you come across.
- Zeratul is invisible but vulnerable with the many Zerg Overlords flying around, which make him visible. So best keep him behind your other units.
- You meet up with 2 Zealots running from left to right in front of your units saying, “We must join our brothers in battle!” follow them.
- You meet up with them ahead along with a handful of other Zealots fighting their way through a swarm of Zerg units.
- Help them and you acquire the remaining units.
- A bit further ahead are 2 Dragoons willing to join you as well. Just move in close to them and they join your squad.
- Keep going and find a few more Zealots to add to your force.
- Now as your moving north, you will come across a handful of more units. This time including 1 Archon and 2 High Templars.
- They tell you there is a Protoss Base in the bottom right corner of your map. Make your way there.
- Tip: The High Templars cannot attack as your other units do. Their only attack is the Psionic Storm, which works great on Zerg units. Click on a High Templar and choose Psionic Storm from his options, then click over any enemy units and enjoy the lightning.
- You will find the Zerg forces are a bit more numerous now so keep your units together.
- Once you arrive at the Protoss base you notice the Warp gate by the entrance. Move your forces, including Zeratul to it and they will go through.
- Zerg Forces then appear in greater numbers around the base.
- Jim Raynor appears and helps you get everyone out.
Dunes of Shakuras
Mission Objectives:
- Build a Base including Nexus, Getway, and Stargate.
- Destroy the Zerg Base.
Mission:
- You start out with 4 Zealots and 4 Probes.
- Use your Zealots and go north and then Left.
- You come across 2 Zerg units. Take them out and keep moving left.
- Once you reach the mineral field, bring the probes in to create a Nexus and begin gathering your minerals.
- Be aware that once you create a Nexus, a few Zerg forces attack from the north and the south. Don’t panic though, you also get a few reinforcements to fend this small attack off.
- Keep 3 probes gathering minerals and take 1 to build a Pylon under your Nexus. This will enable you to build more Probes.
- Tip: Keep a few units at the northern part of your base and at the southern to fend off random small Zerg attacks.
- Once you have the Pylon, build a Gateway, but hold off on creating more units.
- Keep creating more Probes to gather minerals.
- Once you have 150 minerals, build a Forge. This will enable you to build Photon Cannons to protect your base.
- Build a Pylon near the ramps at the southern part of your base.
- Create 4 to 6 Photon Cannons around the area of the 2 ramps, keeping them close so they can support each other.
- Tip: Keep your units close to help the Cannons on attacks.
- Keep Creating more Probes as you go.
- Build another Gateway near the 1st along with another Pylon. The further away you spread the Pylons, the more building room you have.
- Create 2 to 4 Gateways along with 4 to 6 Pylons.
- Create an Assimilator on the gas main to the right of the mineral field and assign 3 Probes to it.
- Create a Cybernetics Core to enable you to build Dragoons and more, there will be flying enemy units that Only your Dragoons can attack.
- Optional: Upgrade your forces Attack, Armor and Shields at your Forge. Also Upgrade you Dragoon’s Range at your Cybernetics Core.
- Create about 12 Zealots and 12 Dragoons and take them south past your ramps and over the bridge to the right.
- Fight your way south to the next mineral field and establish another base.
- Build up your forces again with a fair amount of Dragoons and Zealots and take them north of the bridge where you will fond the Warp gate.
- Fight through the few Sunken Colonies across the bridge to the right, but before you take on the main Zerg base, build up your forces again.
- Destroy everything and then Jim Raynor appears again at the Warp gate.
Legacy of the Xel’Nega
Mission Objectives:
- Destroy the Zerg Cerebrates.
Mission:
- You start out with an already established base in the center-right part of the map.
- Right away they give you a few flying units in the northern part of the map.
- A handful of Corsairs and 2 drop ships holding 2 Dragoons in each. The Corsairs throw a Disruption Web on the Zerg Colony Below.
- Use your Dragoons to take out the 2 Sunken Colonies first.
- Go back to your min base and begin gathering minerals.
- Create a few more probes and a Forge close to your Nexus.
- Once your Forge is build, create 3 or 4 Cannons at the southern part of your base.
- There is a bridge to the Northern Left of your Nexus, create a Pylon close to your side of it and place a few Cannons there as well.
- Now start building up your forces.
- Move your Dark Templars and one probe to the mineral field where the Dragoons where dropped.
- Create a Second Nexus and more Gateways here to add to your forces.
- Tip: You will need to do this eventually because your minerals at your main base will run out.
- Once you do, build a few Pylons and a handful of Cannons to fend off Zerg attacks.
- Build a Cybernetics Core to create Dragoons as there will be flying enemy units.
- Tip: There is no land connecting you to the Zerg base so the Zerg will be dropping enemy units in random spots.
- Since you cannot attack without air support, you will either need to create Shuttles to drop your units on the Zerg side, or create flying units that can attack. Either will work but doing both will be more beneficial.
- Create a few Reavers at your Robotics Facility.
- Now take a large force and get ready to attack.
- Tip: Attack with all your forces at same time and same location.
- Use your Corsairs and their Disruption Webs to protect your Shuttles.
- Take out all the Zerg forces and buildings.
- You can only destroy the 2 Cerebrates using Dark Templars, and once you do, your done.
The Quest for Uraj
Mission Objectives:
- Take Kerrigan to the Uraj Crystal.
- Kerrigan must survive.
Mission:
- The mission starts with 3 Shuttles dropping off 3 Reavers and 3 Dragoons in the middle of a Terran Base.
- Kerrigan along with 4 Probes are also dropped off.
- Take out all the enemy Terran buildings and units in the area and make the base your own.
- Once your establish a few Cannons at the northern and southern part of your base, take your Reavers and take out the surrounding Terran Bunkers to the south.
- After, take Kerrigan under her Cloak and destroy the Siege Tank at the Terran Base to the south.
- Be aware that as soon as Kerrigan attacks, she will be temporarily visible but take out the Tank first and get her away.
- Take your Reavers and take out the rest of the Terran base.
- Tip: Keep the Reavers at a distance so they don’t attract too much attention.
- Once the area is clear, move in and build a new Nexus and start gathering more minerals.
- Build a few Pylons and Cannons to protect this Base as well.
- Start building a balanced for of air and ground units.
- Tip: If you attack from the bottom left you can avoid a majority of the Terran forces.
- As you attack remember to keep creating units to support your already attacking force.
- Now you don’t need to destroy everything to complete the mission.
- Just get Kerrigan to the visible spot on the map with the Crystal in the bottom right corner of the map.
Battle of Braxis
Mission Objectives:
- Destroy the five power generators to pierce the UED blockage.
- Artanis must survive.
Mission:
- You start with 4 Zealots, 2 Dragoons, 3 Scouts, 2 Drop Ships, and Artanis in a very powerful Scout Ship.
- Load 1 Dragoon and 2 Zealots in each of the Drop Ships.
- Notice you also have a few invisible Observers ahead, however do not move them as there are Terran Missile Turrets all around.
- Take your Drop Ships with your units on board and drop them off at the Observer farthest to the left.
- Drop off your units and take out the Missile Turrets and the 2 Terran Bunkers.
- You must destroy all the Power Generators visible in yellow on the map.
- Each time you destroy one, all the surrounding Missile Turrets power down.
- Once you take out the first, you acquire a few more units; 2 more Dragoon and 4 Dark Templar.
- Pick them up at your original starting location.
- Take the Observer at the location where you dropped off the first few units and drop them off just north of the same spot you dropped your first units at.
- Use your Dark Templar to take out the 2 Bunkers ahead.
- Tip: Missile Turrets make your invisible Dark Templar visible so be aware of surrounding units and Turrets.
- Ahead are 2 more bunkers. Best to take them out first and with all your units.
- Then take out the 2nd Power Generator.
- Now backtrack to the bottom right corner of the map.
- Take the full of your units and push forward taking out the 2 Bunkers and the handful of Missile Turrets.
- Your cut off at the top, so take your Dragoons and destroy the Missile Turrets to the left using their range.
- Drop off your units just above the destroyed Turrets and go left and destroy the 1 Bunker.
- Keep going left and follow the path north and then right leading to the 3rd Power Generator.
- The 4th Generator is well protected by many spider mines. They are only visible with an observer present.
- Bring your reinforcements, including the observers, to your remaining units.
- Inch your Observers up till you can see the Mines.
- Use only your Dragoons to take out the first batch, but keep your distance.
- There are Ghosts at the four corners of the Generator. Best way to take them out is with your Templar's Psionic Storm ability.
- Load all your units on your Drop Ships and drop as many as you can on the Power Generator and as fast as you can.
- Take out all Terran units and the Generator.
- Approach the 5th Generator from the center top part of the map.
- Your reinforcements this time include Corsairs and an Arbiter.
- Use your Arbiter to make your units invisible and use the Corsairs Disruption Web on any Missile Turrets.
- As you go, bring your ground units through on Drop Ships and drop them all off by the 5th Generator.
- Now just outlast the enemy Terran units.
- Tip: Use the Arpiter's Stasis ability to take out the Terran Battle Cruisers.
- Destroy the 5th Generator.
Return To Char
Mission Objectives:
- Retrieve the Khalis Crystal or do enough damage to the Overmind to send it into remission.
Mission:
- You start out with an established Protoss Base and Zerg Base.
- Your going to want to create ground units primarily as there are several Zerg Spore Colonies which attack any flying units.
- There are 2 targets on the lower part of the map. The Zerg Overmind and the Khalis Crystal.
- Make the Overmind on the left your primary target as it is less guarded.
- Start with your Zerg base, create a few Sunken Colonies and Zerglings in the southern area close to your base.
- At your Protoss base, place a few Photon cannons on the left and southern part of the base.
- To take the Overmind, first take the Zerg base to the left of your Protoss base.
- Create a Nexus and a Pylon for a few Cannons a bit below the Minerals.
- Get a good size force to attack south to take the Overmind.
- Now work up a good size Zerg force of Zerglings and Hydralisks.
- Work your way south towards the Crystal.
- You won't need to destroy everything along the way, just enough to make it to the Crystal and the mission is accomplished.
The Insurgent
Mission Objectives:
- Kill the traitor Aldaris.
Mission:
- You start with a pre-established base.
- Notice the 2 red units called Dark Archons. They do not attack but have 3 useful abilities, of these 3 the Mind Control is most useful in this mission.
- Select your probes and begin gathering minerals, at the same time create a few more probes and continue until there is one probe per mineral.
- Begin by taking a few of your Dark Templars and 1 probe to the left and find the 2 bridges near one another.
- Build a Pylon and create a handful of Cannons to fend off enemy attacks.
- Then take the Dark Templars and the 1 probe and go north along the right passage.
- Find the bridge and create a Pylon and more Cannons here too.
- Find the ramp along the right of the map and the Mineral field to create a second Nexus to gather minerals.
- Now focus on creating units to take Aldaris who is 1 of the 3 points on the northern part of the map.
- Optional: Recommend you upgrade your units at the Forge or Cybernetics Core.
- Begin by taking a large force of Zealots and Dragoons over the bridge you created Cannons near by to the right.
- Take out the small enemy base and create your own in it's place (a Nexus and Cannons to protect it).
- Build up your forces again with Dragoons and Zealots and take the enemy base to the far right corner and kill the first Aldaris.
- You can create another Nexus near the mineral field if you wish.
- Now you can take a force to the left near the 2 bridges and destroy this enemy base and kill the 2nd Aldaris.
- This leaves only the third and final Aldaris and he is guarded well.
- Tip:Use your Dark Archon's Mind Control ability to turn any large enemy units you come across (Carriers, Arbiters, and Reavers).
- Take your full force and break through the enemy defenses and kill the 3rd and the real Aldaris.
- Attack him and your mission is accomplished.

- Defeat the Dominion strike force.
Mission:
- You start with 4 Medics and a handful of Marines and 3 Pilots (who don't have any attack)

- Best strategy is to position your medics in front of your Marines, your medics will take the brunt of the damage but will heal each other immediately.
- On the next stage there will be 3 Tanks in Siege mode on upper levels where you cannot attack.
- Take your Medics all together and move them up the passage just a bit.
- Once the tank fires he is visible for a second or 2, fire the Medic's Optical Flare ability over the tank to blind it for a while.

- Once you can spare 4 to 6 Tanks with a handful of Marines with Medics, send them to the right of your base to destroy the enemy and make the mineral field your own.
- Tip: Have a Science Vessel ready to help out if you are attacked by cloaked Wraiths or Ghosts.
- Tip:When sending Tanks, Goliaths, or Wraiths on an attack, have an SVC follow to repair the units when damages.
- At one of your new Command Centers, create a Nuclear Silo attachment and build a Nuke.
- Best strategy is to take a number of Ghosts in one at a time and use their Nuke ability to take out numerous units and buildings at once, or to inch your way in with Tanks in Siege mode with backup units.
- Tip: With Ghosts, be sure to keep your distance from Missile Turrets as they can detect your cloak.
- If you use the Ghost strategy, continue to Nuke your way into the enemy base but be aware of your Ghosts cloak counting down.

- Tip: Be sure to keep a force there to defend attacks.
- Then take out the small enemy base in the bottom right corner.
- Tip: Keep forces here to fend off attacks.
- Tip 2: Keep a few Medics at each base to Restore any of your larger units that are locked down by enemy Ghosts.
- Create a few Nuclear Silos at your Command Centers for your Ghosts to use.

- Right away you can take 2 Tanks and the 6 Marines to the base directly to the north of yours.
- Drop them off right behind the mineral field and set the Tanks in Siege mode.
- If you can wait for a bit, the Zerg will attack this Protoss base soon, leaving you to mop up the rest.
- Either way, create a Command Center and begin gathering minerals.
- Once you have established a good defense here, bring 2 Tanks and 12 Marines to the vacant mineral field slightly north and to the right of the your new base.
- Create another Command Center here as well and begin gathering minerals here as well, but keep the units there to protect it.
- Begin massing your units and upgrading their abilities, armor and weapons.
- Tip: The Protoss and Zerg in this mission are enemies as well as if like a free-for-all match.
- Create 6 to 9 Battlecruisers along with Frigates and take out the Zerg base to the north left corner.
- The best way to Rayror's Command Center is to stay tight to the top part of the map and make to the right towards it.
- Bring 12 Battlecruisers along with a handful of Frigates and 2 Science Vessels tot he top left corner of the map.
- Send all your ground units through the main entrance to the Protoss base first to bring most of the Protoss units that way.

Patriot's Blood
Mission Objectives:
- Find and kill Vice-Admiral Stukov.
- Duran must survive.
- Get to the Override Terminal before time expires.
Mission:
- Best strategy is too have your Marines first with both Medics following and with Duran in the back.
- There is only one way to go so move through the facility and keep the units in that line-up.
- Make your way to the vacant Goliaths, however you must get to them before the enemy Pilots do or you will have to destroy them.
- Once you have the Goliaths, make your way south and pick up the SCV, which will enable you to repair your newly acquired Goliaths.
- Now keep your Goliaths in front with Durran and any Marines you might have in back with the Medics following Duran and the SCV behind.
- Work your way to Stukov's position and bring Duran to the computer terminal in the area.
- Now that Duran is the real traitor, all the enemy Terran units will join you as you meet them along the way.
- Keep an eye on the timer as you only have 15 min to hit the Override switch.
- Make your way to the Override terminal now killing all the Zerg in your way.
- Keep your Medics close to your Marines and your Goliaths and SCVs first in line to take a brunt of the damage.
- Once you reach the massive Zerg force, there are automatic floor guns that will shred through them without you having to lose any units.
- Bring one Marine close to the door and once it opens lead the Zerg right in and watch them die.
- Keep going and keep your Medics close and your SCV with your Goliaths.
- You encounter a handful of Zerg along the way but keep going till you reach the terminal.
- Once you activate it your mission is accomplished.
To Chain the Beast
Mission Objectives:
- Get a Medic to each of the Beacons surrounding the Overmind.
- Kill the Zerg Cerebrates to weaken the Overmind's defenses.
Mission:
- This mission will be a bit different in that you cannot destroy enemy buildings until the Zerg Cerebrate for the base.
- Begin building up your defenses right away with a combination of Bunkers, Turrets, and Siege Tanks.
- Do this quickly and as best a defense as possible because there will be 1 Torrasque(a very powerful Ultalisk hero) attacking every now and then and is a hard one to kill.
- He will continue showing up and attacking until you destroy the Zerg Cerebrate 2.
- Build a Starport and an attached Control Tower and create a Drop Ship to bring an SCV to the mineral field to your right.
- Once you have a good enough defense, begin upgrading your units abilities, armor, and weapons.
- Build 4 Battlecruisers and 6 Valkyries.
- Move them straight to the Zerg Cerebrate north of your base.
- Use the Battlecruisers Yamato gun on the Cerebrate then finish it off quickly and all the surrounding Zerg will go inactive.
- Clear out some of the Zerg buildings if you need more minerals of gas and use theirs.
- Check up on your defenses against the Zerg Torrasque.
- The same strategy will work on Cerebrate 2 that did on 1.
- Only this time create 6 Battlecruisers with 6 Valkyries.
- Move in on Cerebrate 2 to the right of your base.
- Again just worry about taking out the Cerebrate and all the surrounding Zerg will go inactive.
- Best way to take ou the 3rd Cerebrate is to take 12 Battlecruisers with 8 Valkyries and move around to the top right corner of the map.
- Take out the Zerg Spore Colonies in your way and your should find the 3rd Cerebrate close by.
- Use your Battlecruisers Yamato gun and take it out.
- Once the Zerg forces are inactive, bring 4 Medics to the 4 beacons surrounding the Zerg Overmind and the final mission of the Terran Campaign is complete.

- Build up your base and defenses before attacking.
- Upgrade your units attack, defense, and speed.
- Build a well supplied force mixed with Zerglings, Hydralisks, Ultralisks, and a Queen.
- Send your force tot he Terran base directly above your base.
- Be sure not to destroy the Terran Command Center, instead attack it till it's life is half way down, then take your Queen and use her Infest ability on it.
- Tip: You need to kill off any forces located at the base first before you can infest it.
- Each Terran base is the same as the next so don't expect any to be more difficult then the last.
- Continue rebuilding up your force and attacking each Terran base, Infesting each Command Center.
- If you run low on resources there are more located on the plateaus above throughout the map.
- Best way to take out the Terran units protecting them is to pick up your units with your Overloards and drop them off above.
- To take out the Terran bases the easiest way with the least damage to you is to create a Spire, then a Greater Spire.
- Then create Muralisks and once they spawn, morph them into Guardians.
- Guardians can destroy units and structures from a distance without taking damage.
- Infest each Terran Command Center or collect 10,000 minerals and your mission is accomplished.

- Tip: When you attack be sure to bring a few Overloards along to see any invisible units or hiding Zerg units.
- Begin upgrading your units attack, defense, and abilities.
- Focus of creating mass amounts of Zerglings and Hydralisks as they are none expensive.
- If you want a more powerful but more costly unit, create Guardians.
- Build a Spire and upgrade it to a Greater Spire.
- Create Muralisks then morph them into Guardians.
- When ready to attack, follow the northern path to the center of the map.
- Use your Guardians to take out enemy Sunken Colonies and Missile Turrets.
- Once you take this base, there is a smaller enemy base below it. Use only your Guardians to take this base out as it is only defended with Missile Turrets and Sunken Colonies.
- Once this base is gone, build a Hatchery and begin gathering minerals.
- Build a few Hatcheries at each base to increase your units put-out rate.
- Once you have established all of your current bases, Begin re-building up your force to take the Terran Main base to the left.
- Build up your force till you have about 5 to 6 forces built up of Zerglings, Hydralisks, and Guardians.
- Have your Guardians take out any Terran bunkers and Missile Turrets along the path.

- Once you have destroyed all the Terran, build up for forces again to about 5 to 6 made up of the same units and begin your assault on the 1st Zerg base.

- Kill the enemy bases.
- Kill Duke.

- You have 6 minutes to destroy as much of the enemy Terran & Protoss bases as you can before they begin to create additional units.
- The Terran are located all along the left of the map and the Protoss on the right.
- The 1st Terran base is located straight to the left of your own so that would be the quickest option.
- Send your Zerglings and Hydralisks to the Terran camp and begin destroying.
- Keep creating Zerglings and Hydralisks as they are cheap and quick so you can do the fastest damage.
- Tip: Focus on just creating more units to kill of the Terran for now until the 6 minutes are up.
- Tip: Focus on destroying the Terran unit creating buildings as they cannot recreate these after they are destroyed.
- Once the 6 minutes are up, begin expanding your base and utilizing any mineral clusters open.
- Tip: Be sure to send your attacking units back to your main base as it will be under attack almost instantly by Protoss forces.
- Create a few Sunken Colonies around your base, and them Spore Colonies.
- Once you have a solid defense and enough units to protect your base, begin cleaning out the remaining Terran buildings.
- Expect most of the attacks from the Protoss from the south to focus your defense there.
- If you were able to take out the first 2 Terran bases, then the bridge to the south will be the only point that attacks will come from so focus some troops there.
- Create 4 more Hatcheries at one of your expanded bases.
- You will need to build up your defenses quickly and then focus on upgrading your units attacks, armor and abilities.
- Once you have your units upgraded and have a well sized force, begin attacking the Protoss bases.
- Tip: Bring a few overloards along with your attack force to detect the Protoss invisible units.
- You can get away with just creating Zerglings and Hydralisks for now when attacking the 1st Protoss camp.
- Keep pumping out units to overwhelm the Protoss and you should get through their defenses.
- Eventually you should create Guardians and Ultralisks to wipe out the remaining Terran and Protoss bases.
- Keep an eye on your expensive units as you don't have a lot of resources to utilize here.
- Once you come across the Reavers located on the opposite side of a bridge making it very difficult to cross, use your Mutalisks or your Guardians to take them out with minimal damage taken.
- If you come across a menacing Protoss Arbiter, use Mutalisks of Scourges to take them out quickly.
- To defeat the final Protoss camp, coordinate your attacks together so no one unit attacks by themselves.
- Once you kill Duke, Fenix, and destroy all the Terran and Protoss buildings, your mission is accomplished.

- Destroy the UED Scientists at the Terran base.
Mission:
- You start with a handful of bases located all along the right side of the map.

- Don't bother truing to fight back as it won't accomplish a thing, instead just focus on building up your central base as it is not accessible by land from the surrounding areas.
- Begin by creating Spore Colonies to protect your base form air attacks.
- Don't build any Sunken Colonies yet, instead use ground forces to take out any drop off attacks.
- Keep in mind that you can re-expand to the bases you started with surrounding your main, but you will need to research Ventral Sacs on your Overlords to transport your ground units.
- Tip: A good strategy is to place your defenses at the 2 openings north and south of your base as the enemy needs to go through these areas first.
- Build 2 Hatcheries at any of the Expansions you take.
- You will be able to attack from the ground from the far north and south access points you were attacked from in the beginning of this mission.
- Your most valuable units in this mission are your Mutalisks and your Guardians.
- Remember to upgrade your air and ground units attacks, armor, and abilities.
- A good strategy is to focus your air attacks to the northern Zerg camp, and your ground attacks to the southern Terran base.
- As you continue attacking, you continue to be attacked so keep an eye on your bases and keep pumping out units to defend and attack.
- You can work your way in from the north and south to get the UED scientists located in the middle base on the map.
- Another way is to take your Guardians straight to the left and take out the Missile Turrets first.
- Then bring a large number of Overlords transporting all of your ground units to take out this base.
- You can also overwhelm this base with a mass number of Mutalisks.
- Either way is effective in getting the victory.
- Kill off all 30 of the Terran scientist and your mission is accomplished.
