Starcraft 2 is an intense real time strategy game featuring three unique species: The Protoss are a race of highly advanced telepaths, the Terran are a human species with versatile units, and the Zerg are an insect like race that swarms opponents with mass numbers. Each species has a distinct set of units and play style. The objective of the game is to build a base, produce attack units and then crush your opponents. The diversity of units and abilities create a deep game with many viable strategies.

Players from all over the world connect via Battle.net and battle for dominance over the web. Blizzard, the game's creator, constantly monitors these battles to make sure the three races are balanced and the gameplay remains fun and competitive. If they detect an imbalance they will patch the game to fix the problem. They also keep track of the best players on Battle.net and occasionally invite these players to compete in tournaments. Other entities have begun hosting similar tournaments with huge payouts and massive fan followings. As the Starcraft 2 pro scene develops, there has been an increasing demand for video of the pros playing. By watching high level players, average players can learn new strategies. Many players also watch for fun, to see how their favorite pro is doing.
