This page contains a full text walkthrough for Knights of the Old Republic, a 2003 role-playing video game developed by BioWare for the Xbox and PC. Introduction
Knights of the Republic is comprised of a basic "D20" battle system, the same as that utilized throughout the Dungeons and Dragons game series. This means that the game's internal roll of the dice randomly determines the strength of your attack.- The game is very open-ended. In addition to choosing your path as a dark or neutral versus light Jedi, countless decisions are made throughout the game either by your actions or speaking with specific characters or NPCs. Some of these choices directly affect the outcome of events and gameplay throughout the remainder of the game.
- This particular walkthrough has been written playing as dark side male Scout Ryder Sexton. Answer every question in a snide manner, be the worst possible person you can imagine and you'll do fine ;) Should you play on the light side, you will notice different opportunities and items, as well as a very different ending than playing on the dark side. Once you have learned the ropes playing through the dark side, play it again on the light side both for a challenge and to explore the differences.
- You will want to pay attention to the side quests that provide multiple items and XP in addition to changing future events in the game. Talk to each member of your party often to learn more about you and their story lines. They also provide side quests that can only be found by talking to them often, e.g., two or three times on each world.
Story
- A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
- Four thousand years before the rise of the galatic empire, the Republic verges on collapse. DARTH MALAK, last surviving apprentice of the Dark Lord Revan, has unleashed an invincible Sith armad upon an unsuspecting galaxy.
- Crushing all resistance, Malak's war of conquest has left the Jedi Order scattered and vulnerable as countless Knights fall in battle, and many more swear allegiance with the new sith master.
- In skies above the Outer Rim world of Taris, a Jedi battle fleet engages the forces of Darth Malak in a desperate effort to halt Sith's galactic domination...

- Switch to the head of the party.
- Use his Security skill to override the locked door and enter the next part of the ship.
- On your entry, a Republic guard is in the process of being taken out by some Sith Soldiers.
- Listen to the battle overview.
- Select the option to engage enemies in battle to gain a bit more experience.

- Take out the Sith Soldier.
- Take a left down the adjacent corridor.

- Head over to the right side of the room.
- Obtain the parts for the droid in the footlocker as well as the computer spikes you need to hack the computer system.

- Walk around the circle of apartments.
- Approach each of the low security doors with your security skill.
- Talk to the creatures, especially the Twi'lek vendor next to his kiosk of goods and the janitor of the apartment building you're "renting" out on.
- Learn everything you can about everything from the Sith occupation to Energy Shields from the vendor.
- Listen to the janitor explain how you can get equipment and information in the Upper City area at an equipment shop and a cantina.
- You can get to the Upper City by taking the elevator up on the same floor where your apartment is located.
- Head right out of the elevator.
- Break into all of the apartments with low security locks the same way you did when speaking to the janitor.
- Door 1 has an angry Twi'lek woman who wants to leave Taris. On the floor of her apartment, you'll find a bag with a Computer Spike, 13 Credits and a Medpac.
- Door 2 has a woman with a bounty on her head. How you choose to interact with her will affect how you interact with another NPC later in the game. You can choose to help her, leave her alone or kill her and take the bounty money from the man who placed the bounty on her.
- Door 3 is an empty apartment containing a footlocker in the right-hand corner of the apartment. Get the 3 Credits, Medpac and a Computer Spike from the footlocker.
- Proceed to the Upper City.
- Start talking to everyone, especially one of the droids, to learn about the city and the Sith.

- The five opponents you will face are Deadeye Duncan, Gerlon Twofingers, Ice, Marl, and Twitch.
- TIP: Deadeye Duncan and Gerlon Twofingers are easy enough to defeat. They use blasters and not very skillfully. Ice also fights with blasters, but has a great deal of skill. Shoot back and her, monitor your health and heal with Medpacs as needed. Marl, your toughest dual, is a melee fighter. Plant a mine in front of you before he charges, back away as he runs at you, and finish him off with blasters. Hurl Frag Grenades at Twitch and follow them up with blasters. Keep an eye on your health gage for each fight and heal as needed.

- Search their bodies for credits and a Vulkar Shock Stick.

- NOTE: Bastila begins to pilot the Ebon Hawk to Dantooine, a Jedi safe haven while you man the gun turret to fend off the Sith fighters in pursuit.

- Neutral: Make him return to her.
- Dark Side: Kill him and return to the woman to tell her that he is still alive.
- Now that all of the side quests are finished, it is time to return to the main Dantooine task and head to the Ruins, where the shared dream between you and Bastila took place.
- Ruins
- Continue into the fields beyond the council building.
- Go through the Ruins door into the Ruins itself.
- Continue forward through another door.
- Meet the Ancient Droid, speaking in a language you cannot understand.
- He will eventually cycle to an understandable language and talks aLOT.
- NOTE: The gist of it is that the Star Forge, built by an ancient race of people called the Builders, is a powerful artifact that Revan and Malak have acquired. The droid was left by the Builders to provide all worthy people all the information he can about the Forge. It is now time to deem yourself worthy in the droid's eyes.
- Search the body of the fallen Jedi.
- Take out the ancient droids that were left by each door to guard the ancient computer terminals.
- TIP: These droids are tough and can take up to 10 minutes each to defeat. Ion blasters and grenades deal the most damage against them.
- Once the droids are destroyed, you have access to the computer terminals in each room.
- Talk to each terminal and insert your data pad.
- Remove the datpad and the computers will begin to provide information on the screen.
- One computer asks you to choose three life giving environments: Grassland, Oceanic and Aboric.
- The other asks you to choose three death giving environments; Desert, Barren and Volcanic.
- Once you have provided these answers, the door in the room is opened.
- Approach the ancient device.
- It opens to reveal of hologram of the galaxy providing a map to find the Star Forge.
- Pieces of the map are missing that corresponds to four planets identified by Bastila.
- The party determines that Malak and Revan must have found clues to the Star Forge's whereabouts by visiting these four planets missing on the map.
- Bastila decides the party needs to return to the Council chambers to give them this information.
- Leave the Ruins.
- Warp back to the Ebon Hawk.
- Continue forward.
- Walk into the Jedi Council building.
- Talk to the Council. They assign you with a quest to visit the four missing planets: Kashyyyk, Korriban, Manaan and Tatooine.
- Juhani automatically joins your party now, unless you killed her.

- You need to bring the Gaffi Sticks back from the Sand People and Jawas that are harassing the miners and she will give you a free Hunting License and bounty money.
- Agree to this.
- Talk to the Rodian behind the counter to purchase any goods and get on your way.
- Exit the Czerka Office.
- Run into the creature who was arguing in the office. He tells you to find an HK-47 droid to talk to the Sand People to begin diplomatic relations to end the killing. He also tells you to gain access to their lair by stealing the attire of dead Sand People.
- NOTE: The HK-47 can be purchased at the droid shop in Anchorhead. He is very expensive, but is ncessary to your mission if you are exploring the light side. If you are going dark side with this mission, you will not need the droid.
- Purchase as many healing items and Frag Grenades as you can to prepare for the Sand People.
- Continue into Anchorhead.
- Pass Jawas and other aliens.
- Round a corner.

- After you stop talking to Marlena, run quickly towards the five dots in the desert to your left by the Sandcrawler.
- TIP: Tanis, one of the five dots, is with his four hunting droids who Marlena has turned against him. If he moves from his current location, they will explode and kill him.
- NOTE: There are multiple choices in this conversation. If you refuse to help, he will charge you and explode to gain you Dark Side points. Light Side points are earned for helping him as well. We opted to repair each droid interface and have him pay us with credits to help him.
- Face Tanis' front side.
- Repair each droid as directed below:
- Northeast: Allocate 120 large pulses

- From the beginning, attempt to disable and retrieve the mines by the entrance.
- Proceed towards the great wall lining the city.
- Continue through the city doors.

- The computer has what it calls a limited field of knowledge and can only answer some of your questions.
- It judges potential seekers of the Star Map based on that person's personality.
- This particular computer wants you to answer four of its questions, and it wants the answers as evil and Sith-like as humanly possible.
- Not answering as indicated below will trigger several fights to gain access to the Star Map.
- Answer to first question... I'm unsure what Zaalbar would say. I would accuse him to be safe.
- Answer to second question... I prepare my forces to attack in ten days. I do nothing in the city.
- Answer to third question... That's right. The deaths of those people would spur by forces on.
- Answer to fourth question... I let the attack happen.
- Get the Star Map.
- Ignore Jolee's request to head back to the treetops. You need to finish one last thing to free Zaalbar from his brother.

- Examine the marker for a tale of an ancient beast that can be lured out of its lair.
- Continue to the vine in front of the rock.
- Hang a Viper Kinrath body from it.
- TIP: If you don't have any Viper Kinrath bodies, proceed through the Lower Shadowlands and kill a few until you can search one of their remains and grab the entire body.
- Once you hang the body, the Ritual Beast appears.
- TIP: His slashes can be poisonous and he can also knock you off your feet which causes you to lose a turn. It is best to use melee weapons with him.
- When he is down, examine his body.

- He offers to take you to the throne room where Freyyr and Chuundar are going at it.
- Accept the Wookiee's offer and you are in the throne room at Rwookrrorro.
- Decide who Zaalbar allies himself with to determine the remaining Kashyyyk adventure.
- Tell Zaalbar to side with his father, Freyyr, the Light Side result. This will free the Wookiees of being bound to slavery by Chuundar's ways. This decision prompts the Czerka guards and Chuundar-loyal Wookiees to attack.
- Take them out with melee fighting techniques.
- Focus on the Czerka and weaker Wookies first, and Chuundar last.
- Search Chuundar's body when he dies to take his Bowcaster.

- NOTE: This is a long side quest, but will lower the prices that Manaan vendors charge you for goods and services if you get the right outcome.#Continue down the long hotel corridor to the wide open room.
- Head right to the check in counter.
- Speak to Ignus, the man behind the counter, and learn about the affair between a Sith woman, Elassa, and Republic man, Sunry.#NOTE: A blaster went off in one of the hotel rooms a few nights before and the Sith woman was found dead. It is generally thought that the Republic man was behind her death. Until the Selkath investigation is resolved, the hotel is a crime scene and cannot conduct any business.
- Turn around.
- Continue down the small hallway to the spot where four doors access rooms on opposite sides of the hallway. Each of the four doors is locked.
- Leave the hotel.
- Return to the Visitor's Center.
- Continue across to enter the West Courtyard of Ahto City.
- TIP: Make sure Jolee is still in your party for the woman, Elora, to recognize him. Elora stops your party, stating that Sunry has been arrested for murder after the death of a Sith woman. She begs for help to free Sunry. Jolee agrees to help.
- Continue further up from her location to a corridor.
- Follow the corridor to the open room, the Selkath Court.
- Wait for the current case to conclude.
- Approach the bench and speak to the middle of the five judges.
- Ask him about the Sunry murder case to trigger the conversation. He will appoint you the "Arbiter" of the case representing Sunry and provides you with the main details of the case.
- Talk to everyone the judge suggests to begin investigating the murder. This is a necessary step to lower the prices of goods in all of the Manaan shop.
- Talk to all five of the judges to interview them.
- Return to the hotel.
- Talk to Gluupor and persuade him that the Republic medal found on the deceased woman was planted there by Gluupor.

- Find Ignus, the hotel owner, behind the counter.

- Offer him 200 credits to testify to that and he will take the money.
- Return to the jail.
- Talk to Elora, Sunry's wife and get her to admit that Sunry was having an affair with Elassa.
- Continue inside the jail.
- Talk to the guard and have him open the door into the jail.
- Talk to Sunry in the holding cage next to the door. Get him to admit to the affair.
- Talk to the warden behind the desk and begin the trial.
- When the court asks if there are opening statements, begin by saying that you will find Sunry innocent.
- The first witness, Firth Me, is there for the prosecution. When it is your turn, ask him if he saw the murder. Ask him if he thinks that the Republic medal that Sunry was awarded with being left at the murder is just a little too obvious. If you bribed him back at the hotel, ask him a third question: if Elassa was a Dark Jedi to which he will reply "yes".
- Gluupor is the next witness. The Sith prosecution gets him to admit that he saw Sunry leave Elassa's room, leaving her dead body.
- When it is time for your cross examination, ask him if he saw Sunry kill Elassa and if the Republic medal being left at the scene is a little obvious. If you managed to persuade Gluupor back at the hotel, ask him if he planted the medal on Elassa's body. He replies that the Sith paid him to do that.
- Elora, Sunry's wife, is the next witness. The prosecution asks her if Sunry may have killed the Sith woman as a result of his crippled status due to a Sith confrontation years ago. She admits that is possible. Do not cross examine her. If you got her to admit to the affair Elassa and Sunry were having however, bring it up now or it will devastate your case later.
- Sunry is called to the stand and admits he was having an affair with Elassa but was going to end it that night. On cross examine, ask him how Elassa managed to get his Republic medal and if he was meeting her to end the affair.
- Closing arguments are next. During your turn, mention that there were no witnesses to the murder and that Sunry was going there to end the affair. Do not say anything else and rest your case.
- After Sunry is found innocent, make your way to the Republic Embassy, across from the hotel entrance.
- Enter the embassy.
- Talk to Roland Wann behind the desk and get to know him.
- Ask him about the Star Map. He replies that he may have some knowledge of it, but needs you to retrieve a missing Republic droid from the Sith base first. He provides three ways to break into the Sith Base. Select the middle option: decode the stolen passcards.

- Help the Jedi fight them.
- Search their bodies for any goods.

- Dark Side Notes: This cutscene does not occur because Bastila is already on your side.

- TIP: Bastila is strong in the Force, so don't waste your time with Persuades.
- Tell her to come back to you and the light side, that Malak is wrong and that you love her.
- The final statement convinces her to use the Battle Meditation against the Sith to help the Republic Fleet access Star Forge space to blow up the station.
- Dark Side Notes: You will not have to fight Bastila. She will leave you in this room while she uses her battle meditation to help the Sith destroy the Republic. You leave her to fight Malak.

- NOTE: The battle with Malak is divided into two parts. Part 1 is not easy by any means, but easier than Part 2.
- Enter the room.
- Head two thirds of the way down the path towards Malak and stop.
- Shoot yourself up with every battle stimulant in your supply.
- Cast Force Immunity on yourself.
- Save the game.
- Finish the rest of the way to Malak, waiting for you at the end of the path to trigger a cutscene.
- TIP: Do not spend a lot of time talking to Malak as this wastes time that the battle stimulants are active. Listen to the conversation the first time through. Then load your save, skip the dialog and get right to the fight to save time that you have your stimulants.
- NOTE: This first part of the battle is the same for both light and dark sides.
- Use the Force Wave in the first part of the battle to knock him back. Follow this up with a charge.
- Once he backs off, you have about 5 seconds to heal or inject more stimulants before the next cutscene.
- NOTE: Part 2 of the battle is different, depending if you chose the light or dark side. Malak has several Jedi in stasis chambers that provide him with Dark Side power. If you are fighting on the light side, avoid combat and run to each chamber to destroy the chambers. This sets the souls free and Malak cannot use them to increase his power.
- TIP: This is a difficult battle. You must do all of the following to have a chance to survive the battle:
- Save Often (even mid-battle)
- Stay Healthy (especially if health dips below 50%)-
- Stim Up (inject stimulants as often as possible)
- Use the Jedi (use the captured Jedi to your advantage)
- Keep Your Distance
- Force Defenses (use Force Immunity and the other protective Force powers)
- If you are a Jedi Guardian or another that is good at hand to hand combat, inject lots of stimulants and fight with your lightsaber.
- Since Malak is so strong in the Force, Dark Force Jedi powers are not that effective on him.
- If you are a Jedi Consular, or just not very strong, you will make abundant use of the Force Wave.
- Knock Malak back and down with the Force Wave.
- While he is stunned from the blow, perform one or two additional actions before he gets up.
- Cast Force Speed on yourself for extra time.
- After freeing the Jedi souls:
- Use Force Wave to knock Malak down.
- Then either heal, stim up, cast a Jedi protection power, do a distance attack like Throw Lightsaber.
- Cast Force Wave as soon as Malak gets up.
- If he gets in a hit, heal again with medpacks to conserve your Force as much as possible.
- Save whenever possible.
- Keep Force Immunity active.
- Once Malak is defeated, you will see one of two endings: the light ending or the dark ending. Unless you activated the alternate ending explained above.
