Located in the Caribbean Sea, the 14 square mile island of St. Martin is a popular vacation destination. The northern part of the island is controlled by France and is regarded for its beaches and shopping, while the southern part is controlled by the Netherlands and offers nightlife and golfing.
Water Sports
The island is home to 35 beaches on which visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports including swimming, surfing or scuba diving. Many also enjoy deep-sea fishing or watching the Marlin's Cup and the Saint Martin Bill Fish Tournaments.
Attractions
In addition to the beaches, the island also features a variety of shopping, with many retailers in the Dutch capital of Phillipsburg. On both sides of the island, visitors can gamble at one of many casinos. With a legal drinking age of 18, there are several night clubs and bars throughout the island.
