  • The St. Jude Classic has been played annually since 1958, and is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour. Since 1989 the tournament has been played at the TPC at Soutwind, and in 2009 the total purse was at 5.6 million dollars with over 1 million dollars going to the winner.
  • Background

    In 1958 the tournament was founded under the name Memphis Open. In 1969 is was renamed to the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. It was named after the actor Danny Thomas in exchange for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would become the tournament's charity.
