  • History

In the late 19th century, the first Bishop of Brooklyn, John Loughlin, encouraged the creation of an institution that would provide not only an intellectual education, but a moral education as well. In 1870, the Vincentian priests of the Roman Catholic Church founded St. John's.

The main campus was originally located in Brooklyn, but moved to Jamaica, Queens during the 1960s.St John's University: History
