Spring Awakening

Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening is based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play of the same name. The original play was banned in Germany due to its controversial content including masturbation, rape and suicide.

The musical version premiered Off-Broadway in 2006 and opened on Broadway, at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, on December 10, 2006. The show received instant critical acclaim and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, eventually winning 8, including the prize for Best Musical.
