Catch and Release
Since sport fishing is strictly for recreation, a popular trend that is gaining popularity is the catch and release method. Fish are caught in a way that allows them to be released safely back into the water. The act helps to maintain the population of the fish in the area and reduces unnecessary death. Some ways to ensure that a fish is released properly and safely after being caught are to land the catch as quickly as possible, to avoid using stainless steel hooks that do not dissolve in the belly of a fish and will eventually cause death, to keep the fish in the water at all times, and finally to be sure to revive the fish after the struggle of the catch.SF.adfg.state.ak.us: Catch and Release
