  • Background

    Spoon signed with Matador Records in 1996 and released their debut album, Telephono. In 1998 Spoon left the indie label Matador and signed with a major, Elektra Records. The album A Series of Sneaks was released, four months later the band was dropped from the label due to low sales.

    In 2000 Spoon signed with Merge Records, an indie label based out of North Carolina. Since signing with Merge the band has released four critically acclaimed albums, 2001's Girls Can Tell, 2002's Kill the Moonlight, 2005's Gimme Fiction, and 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga.

    Although the band is based out of Austin, Texas Britt Daniel has lived in Portland, Oregon since 2006.

    The group was formed in 1993 by singer/guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. The name Spoon comes from a song by the German Krautrock band Can. The songs can be found on Can's 1972 album Ege Bamyasi.
