Spirited Away was released in 2001. It is an Anime fantasy film. The plot involves a family who is moving and takes an alternate route which leads them to an abandoned town. Their 10-year old daughter then wanders away from the rest of the family. The young child discovers a mysterious world full of monsters and witches, ruled by Gods. She also finds out her family has been turned into pigs and are facing the grim reality of becoming someone's dinner. She must save her family and find her way home.
Feedback
Spirited Away has received very positive feedback since its 2001 release. It is the first anime film to win an Academy Award. It won for "Best Animated Feature". The film has also won many other awards including a Silver Scream Award, Golden Berlin Bear, Blue Ribbon Award and many others. It also received a variety of award nominations.The film was originally released in Japan. It came to be the highest grossing film in Japanese history. The film was then remade by Disney and released in the United States in 2002.
