The Spirit Awards 2009 were announced during the awards ceremony which is held on the Santa Monica beach on February 21, 2009. Since 1984, the annual event has been produced by the non-profit organization Film Independent to honor independent films and film makers.
Alec Baldwin (30 Rock) has been named as honorary chairman for the 2009 Spirit Awards and he will also be a presenter at the ceremony. Honorary chairmen are selected based on their outstanding film achievements as well as for their commitment to Film Independent’s overall mission of supporting independent filmmaking.
