In the story, Venom discovers a way to build an army of clones from his symbiotic suit. He eventually takes over the city of New York, prompting SHIELD to quarantine the area and trap thousands of people in the process. As a result, Spider-Man must team up with numerous other heroes and villains as well as don the black suit himself in order to combat Venom's forces.
