Speed Racer is a 1960s Japanese anime series. A live action film version of the series directed by the Wachowski Brothers was released in May 2008.
Speed Racer was the English-language adaptation of the Japanese anime series Mach GoGoGo.
Created by Tatsuo Yoshida, Mach GoGoGo began as a print manga series and made the jump to televised anime in 1967. When the show was dubbed into English, its main character, the race car driver Go Mifune, was renamed "Speed Racer."
Speed Racer drove the Mach 5, which deployed gadgets by pressing buttons on the steering wheel hub labeled "A" through "G." An "H" button was mounted in the car's console. Speed Racer's recurring cast of characters included Speed's girlfriend Trixie, Speed's younger brother Spritle, a chimpanzee named Chim-Chim and the enigmatic Racer X.
