Spaced is a 1999 British sitcom from director Edgar Wright. The show has a particular bent towards popular geek culture, lampooning topics such as video games, science fiction, modern art, comic books and action films. The show ran for two seasons on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.
It would mark the first popularized collaboration between Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright. The trio would go on to make films, particularly Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Simon Pegg cites that the show Northern Exposure was the primary influence for the style and tone of Spaced. He said that when it was initially pitched, they described it as, "a cross between The Simpsons, The X-Files and Northern Exposure."http://www.spaced-out.org.uk/about-spaced/whatisspaced.shtml
In 2007, Fox had scheduled an American remake of the show, but after a negative response from fans, the show was scrapped in the following year. Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright were particularly offended when they were left out of the loop in the development of the American version.http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/03/02/simon-pegg-on-the-american-remake-of-spaced/ The show was nominated for two Situation Comedy Awards at the BAFTA Awards, and co-writer Jessica Hynes won Best Comedy Actress and Best Female Comedy Newcomer at the British Comedy Awards.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187664/awards

Possibilities of a Third Season
There has been a lot of conjecture from the series creators about the possibility of a third season begin produced. Initially, after the show had finished, Pegg, Hynes and Wright had planned for a third season, saying that it would be the final cap on the show, because they didn't want it to gradually decline in quality over several more seasons.http://www.spaced-out.org.uk/about-spaced/future.shtml More recently, however, Pegg has been vocal about not continuing the series. At the tail-end of 2009, he stated from his own Twitter account that, "RT @Unclegabby: @simonpegg if given the chance to continue Spaced would you? No."http://twitter.com/simonpegg/statuses/7175129079
