Southern University, also known as Southern University and A&M College, is a historically African-American institution of higher learning and the flagship campus of Louisiana's Southern University System (SUS).
History
Southern University was founded in 1880 in New Orleans, Louisiana as an institution of higher learning for African Americans. The institution moved its campus to Baton Rouge in 1912. Subr.edu: History of Southern University
The institution is comprised of nine schools and colleges which include: agriculture, family and consumer sciences, arts, and humanities, business,education, engineering, sciences, architecture, nursing and the Nelson Mandela School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs.
