• South By Southwest is an annual film, music and technology conference held in Austin, Texas. The 2009 festival runs from March 13 through the 22nd. The three portions of the event are organized independently from one another.

  8 films will compete in the Narrative Competition, selected from 737 submissions.Film School Rejects: SXSW 2009 Film Lineup Announced (February 2, 2009) They are Artois the Goat, Bomber, Breaking Upwards, It Was Great, But I Was Ready to Come Home, Made in China, The Overbrook Brothers, That Evening Sun and True Adolescents. A separate competition will be held for documentaries. Additionally, movies premiere at the festival out of competition, including Adventureland from Superbad director Greg Mottola, Beeswax from Mumblecore mainstay Andrew Bujalski, Lynn Shelton's Humpday and Moon, starring Sam Rockwell. A special event has also been planned to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the film Office Space, which was shot in Austin.

• Interactive

  The Interactive portion of SXSW includes featured keynote speakers, panels, a Trade Show, the 12th Annual Web Awards and discussion-oriented events known as "Core Conversations" and Salons. Keynote speakers include Nate Silver, Virginia Heffernan, Chris Anderson and Guy Kawasaki. Zappos.com founder Tony Hsieh will give the opening remarks. The "ScreenBurn" portion of the interactive event focuses exclusively on video games and gamer culture.
