The Sound of Music House is called the Villa Trapp, and is the former home of the von Trapp family in Salzburg, Austria, who escaped the Nazi takeover by fleeing to Switzerland in 1938. The family story was eventually adapted into a stage play and movie, both called The Sound of Music.
The present owners of the Villa Trapp have remodeled the family residence into a hotel, but on December 3, 2008, the urban planning committee in Salzburg rejected the required zoning change.CNN: It's so long, farewell to 'Sound of Music' hotel (December 3, 2008)
The Sound of Music
The Sound of Music is an Academy Award-winning film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer and scored by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Released in 1965, the movie is based on the true story of how a novice nun named Maria Kutschera charmed the widowed Baron von Trapp and his seven children by turning the family into a musical act—the Von Trapp Family Singers.
