Sorana Cîrstea is a female Romanian professional tennis player. Cirstea has four ITF Women's Circuit singles titles and nine doubles titles.
41st-ranked Cirstea upset the fifth-ranked Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round of the 2009 French Open. Jankovic, a three-year semi-finalist of the tournament, was upset by the teenage 3-6 6-0 9-7. Sorana Cirstea was introduced to tennis at the age of four by her mother and father. By the age of fourteen, Cirstea played on her first ITF Circuit, winning two doubles titlesSony Ericsson WTA Tour: [1]. The following year she won her first singles title with the ITF, and by 2007 with excellent weeks in Budapest and Bali, moved from a rank of 325 to a rank of 169. The debut at the Australian Open in January of 2008 and continuous tour play has moved Cirstea steadily up the ranks.
News: Feb 14, 2010 Sorana Cirstea was defeated in the first day of the Dubai WTA Tour; she played against Italian Francesca Schiavone, score 2-6, 5-7, The game lasted 1 hour and a half. Feb 23, 2010 Cirstea qualified in the second tour of WTA in Miami, where she met American Venus Williams. In the first game she won against Portuguese Michelle Larcher De Brito with the score 7-5, 7-6 . Romanian Cirstea defeated Dutch qualifier Arantxa Rus 6-4, 6-1 in the May's competition in Estoril, Portugal. Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja won in the semifinal. Sorana was defeated by Svetlana Kuznetsova (#6) in the first round of the 2010 French Open.
