Sony Rolly

The Sony Rolly is a really cool music device that brings the sounds and beats to life with this “dancing” MP3 player. The Sony Rolly use G-force sensor to move, spin and open to flaps on both end of the unit, all coordinated to the music. In August 2007 the Sony Rolly first rolled into stores, making some people scratch their head and others light up with excitement.

Features and Functions

The Sony Rolly uses sound sensitive components to detect beat, rhythm, voice and pitch, allowing the user to choose whether or not the Sony Rolly moves with the motion, or just stays still. The track volume is on the top of the unit, it can also be turned up or down by moving the Sony Rolly clockwise or counter clockwise. The Sony Rolly comes with 2GB storage. The Sony Rolly’s preset movements can be downloaded using a personal computer and sent to the Rolly using Bluetooth connectivity. The user can also control the track via a Bluetooth compatible device. The Sony Rolly retails for $229.99 USD, down from the high price of $399.99 USD. The Sony Rolly allows users to customize “arms” on the outside with different colors and designs.

Reviews

The reviews have been very mixed from the people at Sony Style Store, one person had this to say:

"I first heard about Rolly from a friend and i was amazed by the idea of a dancing robot, yet when i saw rolly i was dissapointed, because all i saw was an oval object spinning back and forth. I agree that it is more interesting than a normal mp3 player but only for 1-2 minutes, after that i totally lost interest about it. And yes it can be an interesting decorative feature for a party yet I personally believe that it would be a much greater succes if it resembled the dancing movements of a humanoid."

But then other customers from the Sony Style had this to say:

"It?s something knew that will wow your kids & friends, it moves & lights to music rhythm, if you don?t mind the Price tag an kneed a pair of wireless speakers for your cell than definitely get one Cons You can stream music from your phone or play it from the on board memory thru the integrated Speakers But you can?t plug in headphones ?No 3.5 audio jack? and it does NOT support any tape of wireless Bluetooth Headphones or Bluetooth audio streaming from the Rolly to any other stereo Device I would think that Sony would come up with a firmware update that would allow the use Bluetooth headphones or stereo streaming."
