  • Sonny & Cher were an American pop/rock duo comprised of singers Sonny Bono and Cher. The young couple found chart success in the 1960s with songs like "The Beat Goes On" and their signature hit "I Got You Babe."

By the '70s their music career had fizzled, but their television show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, was a hit from 1971-1974, at which point their marriage dissolved. They reunited for business only with the show The Sonny & Cher Show which ran from 1976--1977.

Cher would go on to have a successful solo music career, while Bono went a slightly different route: he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1994. Bono died after a skiing accident in 1998.
