  • Gameplay

Sonic had only a couple moves to destroy the robots. His somersault turned him into a blue ball, and he could attack robots head on. He could also roll into the robots by doing a running start, then pressing down on the D-pad. Finally, there were times where he could leap and fall shoes first onto a robot; that was rare because most jumps forced Sonic into a ball. Sonic essentially had a life meter of two. If he collected at least one ring, he was safe from one attack until he was hit by a robot, lava, spikes or any other dangerous trap of which he would lose all of his rings. If he did not recover a ring and was hit again, he lost a life and the round was over. Sonic can recover any rings lost when he is hit. Sonic starts a round with zero rings.
  • Storyline

Dr. Robotnik, the antagonist in the Sonic series, is trying to steal all of the Chaos Emeralds in an attempt to rule the South Island. Throughout the game, Dr. Robotnik has several weapons and devices aimed at stopping Sonic. Sonic must travel through the six worlds (known as Acts) until he faces off against Robotnik in the Final Zone.
