After the breakup of Uncle Tupelo in 1994, songwriter and musician Jay Farrar and drummer Mike Heidorn formed the "alternative country" band Son Volt with brothers Jim and Dave Boquist. Their most recent album is 2006's The Search.

Career Overview
Son Volt's first concert was held in the 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis in June of 1995. The band was split at that time between Minneapolis and St. Louis, Missouri. The group released three moderately successful albums in the 1990s before being dropped by their record company in 1999. Farrar pursued a solo career and put Son Volt on hiatus.
In the fall of 2004, Farrar reformed the band with a different line-up and recorded the comeback album Okemah and the Melody of Riot.
