Soft Machine

The Soft Machine was a psychedelic rock band who played a major part in the so-called "Canterbury scene," a group of prog-rock and jazz musicians based out of Canterbury, England. In their early days, they opened for The Jimi Hendrix Experience on tour. The band went through numerous lineup changes as they built a following (particularly in Europe). Though Soft Machine ended in the mid-'80s, a steady stream of live performances have been released since then. Some members reformed to tour and record as "Soft Machine Legacy" in 2005.
