The political ideology of social democracy promotes the a combination of socialist and capitalist elements in the government's management of public policy and capital markets. The aim is to regulate the abuses of capitalism that, social democrats believe, serve to sacrifice the public good in favor of capital gains.

Social Democrats (SD) while adhering to much of Marx and Engels' analysis, argue that justice can best be achieved through an evolution of society rather than a revolution of society.Socialist Workder: Reform or revolution (July 2, 2004) Key elements of a SD are the state ownership of large businesses, large scale social programs such as public education and universal health care, and progressive taxation.Morrischia: Social Democracy Recently many SD political parties have moved towards the 'Third Way,' which has included the privatization of state-owned enterprises and the increasing deregulation of the market economy. -
