He followed this immediate attention with his own classic, 1993's Doggystyle. Prior to his rapping career, Snoop Dogg spent his first years out of high school in and out of prison on various gang related charges. Early on, he created a series of homemade rap tapes with his cousin Nate Dogg and best friend, and cousin of Dr. Dre, Warren G. These mixtapes were heard by Dre who asked him to audition for Death Row Records.
