The website of Smith Barney, a daughter brokerage company of Citigroup, was down for several hours on the morning of September 18, 2008. The crash contributed to the overall panic resulting from the recent Lehman Brothers Bankruptcy and Merrill Lynch acquisition by Bank of America. The reasons for the crash have not yet been reported.
