  • Sly and the Family Stone were a Funk/Soul band that formed in 1967 in San Francisco under the direction of band leader and front-man Sly Stone. The Family Stone were one of the first groups to feature a racially and gender integrated band. The group helped Sly develop a unique a mixture of R&B, Soul, Rock, and Psychedelia on a number of groundbreaking and highly influential albums. Although the band eventually dissolved due to drug problems and inter-band tensions, their influence on popular music was substantial. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.
