"O Saya" and "Jai Ho" from the film Slumdog Millionaire were nominated for Best Song at the 2009 Academy Awards and Jai Ho won. The film's soundtrack was composed by AR Rahman. Rapper M.I.A. is featured on "O Saya" while Sukhwinder Singh, Tanvi Shah, and Mahalakshmi Iyer are featured on "Jai Ho."
M.I.A., who recently gave birth, did not perform at the ceremony on February 22.
