History
In it's early history Slovenia has been part of the Roman Empire, the Republic of Venice and the Austrian Empire among others. Between World War I and World War II Slovenia was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and then in 1945 the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Slovenia would gain it's independence in 1991. -
Politics
Slovenia has a President as the Head of State. The President is selected every five years by popular vote. Slovenia's executive branch consists of a cabinet and a prime minister. The bicameral Parliament of Slovenia consists of a National Assembly, which has ninety members, and the National Council which has forty members. -
Geography
Slovenia consists of four major European geographic regions. The Mediterranean, the Dinarides, the Alps and the Pannonian plain. -
