Sleepy Hollow Film

  • Sleepy Hollow is a dramatic film based loosely on Washington Irving's short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Johnny Depp plays New York constable Ichabod Crane, investigating a series of murders in the New England village of Sleepy Hollow. Tim Burton's direction features his trademark moody atmosphere and dark visuals.
  • Film Production

    After a series of obstacles which stalled production of the film, Tim Burton took directorial control from Kevin Yagher and influenced the design of dark, sharp-angled sets and the use of stop-motion animation. Production lasted several months and a large set of "Sleepy Hollow" was built in Buckinghamshire, England. It took three weeks to film the final chase sequence where Ichabod Crane is dragged after the coach.
  • Critical Reception

    The film was a commercial success, grossing over $200 million in worldwide box office sales. Film critic Roger Ebert gave the film three-and-a-half stars and praised the visually pleasing horror elements. The film has a 72% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
