Slade

Categories: Entertainment
  • Slade are a British hard rock band who came to prominence during the glam rock era of the early 70s. Although they have been immensely popular overseas—particularly in England, where they once exceeded Beatles sales records—their notoriety in the US is mostly confined to Quiet Riot's 1983 cover of Slade's 1973 track "Cum on Feel the Noize," and the 1985 radio hit "Run Runaway."
  • Legacy

Slade's simple, poppy hard-rock has influenced a wide array of subsequent bands, including Oasis, The Sex Pistols and The Ramones. The band's extravagant glam-rock look—reminiscent of 1950s Science Fiction movies, with capes and enormous platform boots—was emulated (and made even more extreme) by KISS. And Prince seems to have been influenced by Slade's creative spelling of the English language in titles like "Mama Weer All Crazee Now" and "Skweeze Me Pleeze Me."
