On April 5, 2008 Skybus announced that it was shutting down its operation stating that, "the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment" was too much to overcome. Skybus was a privately owned airline that was based in Columbus, Ohio. The company offered cheap flights to 17 destinations in the continental U.S..
