Skip James was an American blues singer, guitarist, pianist and songwriter.
Career
Skip James was originally active in the early 1930s, when his three-finger picking style and original vocal delivery was a noted influence on the better-known Robert Johnson. Most of James' early recordings are lost and the Great Depression stalled his career, but he enjoyed a revival in the late 1960s thanks to an appearance at the Newport Folk Festival and blues-rock pioneers such as Cream recording covers of his songs.
