skate. is a next-gen skateboarding video game, with a different style of gameplay and interaction. The focus is on style rather than mashing buttons. The game is available only for the Xbox 360. The game has been one of the best-selling next-generation consoles in the skating genre, outdrawing Tony Hawk's Proving Ground by a 2-to-1 margin. The game received all positive remarks from video game critics, ranging from very-high praise to marginal praise.

Instead of pressing buttons to initiate grinds and aerial tricks, players use both analog sticks to perform tricks. Players tilt the sticks in different directions to change the tricks. In multi-player mode, players compete against each other in high-score competitions, S-K-A-T-E events (similar to H-O-R-S-E) and graffiti challenges (players claim territory by performing a trick in the area).

The storyline is very basic in skate. The main character is hit by a vehicle and on the mend in a hospital. Once out of the hospital, the player tries to reclaim his fame by creating skateboard videos and competing in various events.
