History of Six Flags
The Six Flags family of theme parks got its start in Texas in 1961. Angus Wynne envisioned a more accessible theme park. He based the park on the six countries that had occupied Texas during it's history, and had each flag fly over that section.http://investors.sixflags.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=61629&p=irol-homeprofile
Angus Wynn introduced the world to some concepts that were new: the steel roller coaster, the log flume, and whitewater rides when he opened his first park, “Six Flags Over Texas” back in the early 60’s. The park also featured attractions for those who were not thrill-seekers, such as an Indian village, a “Fiesta Train” and a petting zoo and a goat ride. There was also an amphitheater where shows and music were presented. He wanted his park to be closer to home and more affordable than his competition, the Disney corporation. He charged anyone over four feet tall $2.75 admission. The first year, the park realized more than one million dollars.http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/Six-Flags-Inc-Company-History.html
