Sir George Martin is a music producer, arranger and composer who has produced over 700 albums. Because of his integral contributions to the revolutionary recordings of The Beatles, he is often referred to as "The Fifth Beatle."
Before working with the Beatles, Martin headed up Parlophone Records and produced mostly classical and comedy recordings (including working with Peter Sellers). In an effort to break into pop music, Martin took on the Beatles, who had been turned down by several other labels. They scored their first number one hit with "Please Please Me," and from there Martin and the band went on to record what have been widely regarded as some of the most influential and innovative albums in pop music history, including the landmark recording Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967.
In addition to producing, orchestrating, and occasionally playing piano on Beatles recordings, Martin has produced albums by America, Jeff Beck, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and Cheap Trick among others.
