Simon Monjack

Simon Monjack is a British screenwriter, producer, director and composer. Monjack married actress Brittany Murphy in 2007. At the time, the ceremony was described as "private." Reports of the marriage began to surface when the couple showed up at a Kentucky Derby party wearing wedding rings. Monjack was reportedly set to direct Murphy in the film The White Hotel, an adaptation of the D.M. On December 20, 2009, Murphy died of cardiac arrest. The 32-year-old Murphy was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California, where she was pronounced dead. On December 26, 2009, Simon Monjack gave a telephone interview with the UK's Daily Mail, saying his world was destroyed when Murphy died. Monjack responded to allegations that he is a "con man," telling the mail that much of what's been written about him is "rubbish." Media reports say Monjack's ex-wife, Simone Bienne, took him to court in 2007, claiming he'd failed to pay her the $50,000 she was awarded when the couple divorced in 2006.
