Silversun Pickups

The Silversun Pickups are an indie rock band from Los Angeles, California who released their first full-length album Carnavas in 2006. The band was formed in 2005 with members Brian Aubert, Nikki Monninger, Joe Lester, Christopher Guanlao after they met while working at Disneyland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2BZlp47mRI. The band originated in the famous Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, an area that has produced numerous indie rock acts. Tha band has been rising in popularity, opening for such acts as The Shins, Modest Mouse, Foo Fighters and the Kaiser Chiefs. The band's sound is often compared to that of the Smashing Pumpkins.

In December 2009, Silversun Pickups was nominated in the Best New Artist category for the 52nd Grammy Awards. There was some controversy regarding their nomination for Best New Artist since the band had been nationally known since their previous album. The Silversun Pickups' first full-length album Carnavas was released on July 26, 2006. Within one year, the album had sold more than 180,000 copies. The album has 13 tracks and a total playing time of 55:55. It was released by Dangerbird Records.
