    Two Jesuit priests, played by Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro, travel to Japan in the 17th century to oversee the establishment of an evangelical mission. When they arrive in Japan, they witness the power and brutality of the Japanese Shogunate regime, who in an attempt to stomp out all western influence, persecute Japanese Christians.
