The Signet ring has become popular to wear as a new kind of cocktail ring because of its larger size and vintage look.
History
Signet rings were a tradition amongst noblemen in Europe during the Middle Ages. The ring was a sign of authority and power and was often used to make an impression in wax seals to authenticate important documents. Agate and carnelian were the typical stones set within the rings.
Today, signet rings are used to show membership within clubs or are called class rings for military academies or schools from which the bearer has graduated. The rings come a variety of sizes and quality of metal such as 10K or 14K gold, and can be set with with any kind of gemstone.
